Easter Themed Speech Therapy Activities

I really enjoy celebrating Easter and Spring in my Speech and Language Therapy sessions! I often find that kids get quite excited about Easter and I think there’s something so lovely about the turn of a season! Here are a few of my favourite Easter themed Speech Therapy activities.

Easter Speech Sound Worksheets

I like to use our Easter-themed Speech Sound worksheets, to practise speech sounds in single words. These sheets are all no prep, so I just print the pages we need, grab some crayons and that’s the session planned! They’re great to give out as homework, too. When I use them for homework, I tend to use manipulatives like mini objects, tokens, or magnetic counters, instead of colouring. I then send the page home to be coloured. I like using them for mixed groups as well because kids can colour in the pictures while they take turns to practise their words.
We can get tonnes of practice in with these speech sound handouts by first practising all the words on the page, then choosing a word and saying it 5 or 10 times before we colour/add a counter, etc. Then, at the end, we recap all the words and practise them 5-10 times again!

Spring Prepositions Activities

I love using this spring chick themed prepositions resource in my therapy sessions for supporting students to understand and use spatial concepts. The activities included in the resource are intentionally repetitive. They have been designed in a way that provides students with multiple opportunities to hear and use the target prepositions (in single words and phrases). They’re fun and engaging, too, and can be used in various ways, so we can get a lot of practice in!

The background shows light purple crumpled paper. On the right are two images showing the Spring prepositions resource in use.
On the left is a feedback quote from a previous buyer, it reads "My students loved this cute activity- I used it with many groups the week before Easter and each group enjoyed the activity. They were motivated and it allowed us to target spatial concepts in depth."

Easter Egg Hunt

This is a popular activity with my Early Intervention, Preschool, and School-age clients! Here’s how I do this activity with different ages:

Early Intervention: With my little ones, the focus is on looking around and finding eggs. We model simple core words, symbolic sounds, nouns, and verbs. We also focus on language facilitation strategies such as pausing, commenting, and modelling. I often share the ‘Easter Egg Hunt’ handout from my Spring Early Language Handouts with caregivers so they can do the same activity after the session, too!

Preschoolers and School-age: With my preschool and school-age children, when working on speech sounds, I put objects or pictures containing the sound into the eggs and hide them around the room. We then find the eggs and practise the sounds. If they’re working on language skills, like prepositions, we’ll talk about where the eggs are (e.g., “under the chair”). If we’re working on verbs, we might move around the room in different ways (walk, jump, run, hop, etc.). We then put that into a sentence, into different tenses, etc.

I hope you’ve liked seeing some of the activities we’ve used in Speech Therapy on the run up to Easter! What fun things do you do for Easter in your Speech and Language Therapy sessions?  I’d love to hear- drop us a comment below!
